Question by : If so little sets humans apart from animals…?
…why do we have the capability to look, desire, and create beyond what is necessary to our survival? Is it that these things, such as material goods, are actually crucial for us as a species? But then doesn’t this contradict our view of the unnatural, material world as negative?
Are we not special? Then why do we have the capability to follow and look beyond things such as instinct? Why do we have emotions; don’t they get in the way of what is truly important: the instinct of survival?
Why are our individual lives and the “success” of them so valuable? How can you honestly say that we as individuals are important? What makes us so special, and that uniqueness so beautiful and important to have in this world? Aside from affecting the emotions of others, what makes suicide so horrible?
Why do we try and fight for things such as equality and peace when the way life functions is through the brutality of the survival of the fittest? Doesn’t helping each other as humans out of love, empathy, and humility contradict the very meaning of life and it’s existence? Isn’t socialism and communism, or essentially the abolishment of competition, a COMPLETE contradiction as to how life moves on?
How can we call what we create “unnatural” when we too are apart of the world on the same level as the animals that create what we call natural? How do the resources we use and create differ from that of a monkeys?
Why do we settle for monogamy when so clearly the point of life is to pass on our genes and prolong the survival of our species? Why do we feel the need to limit ourselves through marriage to just one mate, yet feel unsatisfied and unhappy when we don’t?
I am not trying to start any fights, nor do I have any prejudice on this matter. I am merely a teenager trying to find some truth. Thank you

You have some good points. We aren’t so different from animals. Society has made it so that people thing certain things are bad such as suicide and etc… The animals have it better than us if you ask me because they don’t have society to judge them. It is society that has done this to us humans and corrupt our minds so we all worry about what others think and how we should act or what we should have. Honestly I don’t give a shit about what people think about me so I guess I am kind of unique. I do believe that there are some unique individuals in this world, but not many.

This week the sun and the winds happened to be perfect that myself and two other pilots headed up to Santiam State Airport to begin our adventure. Everyone made it back to the airport safely even after one of the pilots ran out of fuel a few miles. No worries though as he was quiet high with a nice glide that he landed safely. Can’t wait to head out to the mountain peaks with even more snow this winter.
