I want to teach myself the electric guitar…?

best resources learning guitar
by Old Shoe Woman

Question by Van S.: I want to teach myself the electric guitar…?
Ok so I’m 16 and I just feel like learning an instrument. We have an electric guitar and amp at our house and I love listening to songs with guitar in them. I know absolutely nothing about guitars and I would like to teach myself how to play. Where is like the best place to start, maybe some resources on learning the electric guitar. If its possible, suggest things that are free or I can access over the Internet.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!!!!

Learn how to read “Tabs” its easy to read guitar music. Its simple. Then go on a website like ultimate-guitar.com and type in the song you want to get the tabs. Then just practise! =]

Learning guitar and piano?

Question by Square One: Learning guitar and piano?
I like singing so I’ve wanting lately to get back into playing piano/keyboards and learning the guitar, I was going to take lessons this fall but between work and school being busier than I expected it didn’t work out. Do you think that it would be possible to teach myself these instruments in my spare time without private lessons? I have some background in piano, I took lessons for a few years when I was a kid, and got up to an intermediate level, but I’ve forgotten a lot and lost my touch, and I have absolutely no background in guitar. I think I need to learn them at the same time, because I’m getting older and I want to be able to use them both. Do you think that I could do well without private lessons? I bought a pretty nice Yamaha Keyboard and a cheap acoustic guitar. Are there any resources you would recommend to teach yourself, maybe online. Thank you for your help.

since you have a background in piano, there’s a good chance you could do without lessons. i don’t know about guitar though… anyway, you’re going to need a lot of spare time to practice, and i wouldn’t advise you to try learning two instruments at the same time (especially since you said you’re already pretty busy with work and school).

anyway, there are lots of sites that offer guitar or piano lessons, these could be helpful. it’s not like a real live teacher sitting by your side and adapting the lessons to your own needs, but still a lot better than nothing.

There are many websites that offer free information and some lessons but you can learn barre chords here an a few other things http://www.fingerdexterity.com. Look for the video on how to learn barre chords and you will be able to play most songs with them.
