Report: Zambia’s Chinese-Run Mines Violate Labor Laws

The Chinese Foreign Affairs spokesperson Hong Lei denied the allegations at a press conference. Scholars indicated that the Chinese official was lying and his statement, without an investigation, was very irresponsible. The report by “Human Rights Watch” runs over 100 pages. It detailed the results of three research missions to Zambia’s four Chinese copper operations in November 2010 and July 2011. These four Chinese companies in Zambia are subsidiaries of China Non-Ferrous Metals Mining Corporation, a state-owned enterprise under the authority of China’s highest executive body. The report reveals that workers in these Chinese-run mines work overtime every day, sometimes up to 18 hours working time, and mine safety and regulations are subject to companies’ indifference. For instance, inadequate ventilation results in hazy smoke in the mines that can lead to serious lung diseases, failing to replace workers’ damaged protective equipment, and routinely threatening to fire workers who refuse to work in unsafe places. Customs Enforcement agents raided the site of the $ 104 million courthouse on Wednesday and took into custody 33 construction workers suspected of being illegal immigrants.

Rachel Mehl, an activist with the coalition, said the group had been in touch with family members of the 33 detained workers. The group is putting them in contact with legal resources.The Rev. Shay Auerbach, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in South Richmond, said the raid sent shock waves through his heavily Latino parish.

“They are going after the hard-working element of the community, and that just drives them deeper underground. It’s so scary for them,” Auerbach said.

Has does The Rev.Shay Auerbach, know the backgrounds of all 33 people, many raids pick up illegals who ignored orders to leave the country or they have re-entered country illeaglly after being deported or are wanted for other crimes ,but we are suppose to ignore our laws because they are hardworkers? How can we just have anyone who shows up and works hard as being someone who is above our laws ? Why do Churches hold candlelight veils for illegals who have broke the laws -do you see churches holding candlelight veils for anyone else who breaks the law ?MORRISTOWN — The New Jersey Advocates for Immigrant Detainees will hold a candlelight vigil at St. Margaret’s Church, at 6 Sussex Ave., at 6 p.m. Tuesday to support the rights of children who may be at risk of being separated from their families because of deportations or detentions.Morristown is a hotbed for immigration issues, given Mayor Donald Cresitello’s support for 287(g), a controversial federal program that calls for deputizing police officers to serve as immigration agents. The mayor has yet to sign the agreement to put the program in place.

The church where the rally will take place, St. Margaret’s Church, is attended by many Hispanics, some of whom are undocumented.

Officials said the vigil is intended to show support for children who live in households where at least one parent is undocumented or is a legal permanent resident. Participants will call for an end to raids by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, detentions and deportations because they cause children to be separated from their families. The participants will share stories of being separated from their families and will call for federal immigration legislation that prevents breaking up families.

Diana Mejia, who heads the local immigrant resource center Wind of the Spirit, said the program will split families and divide the community.

“The people here in Morristown reject the idea that immigrants are to be treated like criminals,” she said. “People in our community from all walks of life are coming out in droves in support of all families who work and live in our town — with or without papers. We are all members of the same community.”

According to the American Friends Service Committee, an immigrant rights group, New Jersey has detained some 1,000 immigrants in county jails or the Elizabeth Detention Center.

Morristown is one of 10 towns where an immigration reform vigil is taking place. The other towns include Bridgeton, Dumont, Freehold, Hightstown, Jersey City, Highland Park, Keyport, Montclair and Newark.

It is part of the scam. They arrive in the USA and the first thing they have to do is have a child so the child can be a citizen and the parents can make the neurotic claim that they shouldn’t have to leave because their kids are US citizens. They then start sucking on the system that the hated whiteman spent 200 years creating. so the whites can watch some poor,poor Mexicans destroy, which they will and it won’t take long. In the mean time, they’ll be laughing in the whitemans face and be extremely rude and belligerant while they do it.

06/28/12: Governor Quinn Signs Laws to Strengthen Healthcare and Safety in Illinois

CHICAGO — June 28, 2012.Governor Pat Quinn today visited the new Ann & Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital to sign three laws that will help more working families acquire insurance and stay healthy throughout their lives. These measures, all passed unanimously by the General Assembly, will help small businesses save money and provide employee health insurance; allow for CPR/AED training for middle school students; and require Illinois hospitals to promote breastfeeding. “We want everyone in Illinois to be healthy at birth, in school and as adults,” Governor Quinn said. “These common-sense laws mean better healthcare for working families and new mothers, and will provide life-saving information to our students.” Senate Bill 2885, sponsored by Sen. Kwame Raoul (D-Chicago) and Rep. Karen May (D-Highwood), will allow more small businesses to join together to form a Healthcare Purchasing Group (HPG). This means that small businesses that may not have been able to provide health insurance coverage individually for their employees can pool resources with other businesses to acquire affordable coverage plans for up to 2500 participants per group.
