Enda Kenny’s Victory Speech – Irish General Election 2011

Enda Kenny’s Victory Speech – Irish General Election 2011

On 23 February 2011 opinion polls suggest that Kenny would lead Fine Gael to its largest total of seats to date in the 31st Dail, and that he would be elected Taoiseach. The count has yet to be completed but currently (21:00 27th. Feb. 2011) his party already has 70 seats so there is no doubting the fact that he will lead the next government here in the Republic of Ireland.
An opinion poll published in The Irish Times on 10 June 2010 triggered a challenge to Kenny’s leadership of the party. The MRBI poll indicated that the Labour Party had become the most popular political party in the country for the first time ever, and also showed a drop in backing for Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, and for their leaders. It showed a five-point drop in Fianna Fáil support since January 2010, leaving that party on 17%, Fine Gael down four points to 28%, and Labour up eight points to 32%. Satisfaction with Kenny’s leadership dropped 7% to 24%.
Following the failure of the party’s deputy leader Richard Bruton to support him, he was dismissed by Kenny on 14 June. He also tabled a motion of confidence in his leadership, to be held on 17 June. On the following day it was revealed that nine members of the Fine Gael frontbench did not have confidence in Kenny to lead their party – composed of Simon Coveney, Denis Naughten, Olwyn Enright, Olivia Mitchell, Fergus O’Dowd, Michael Creed, Billy Timmins, Leo Varadkar and Brian Hayes. Denis Naughten said frontbench members did not have Kenny’s support and would like him to withdraw his motion of confidence and stand down in the interest of the party.
The motion of confidence in Kenny was passed. He announced a major reshuffle of his party’s front bench on 1 July 2010, re-appointing Bruton, Coveney, O’Dowd and Varadkar.

FOLLOWING SWEEEPING REPUBLICAN GAINS IN THE HOUSE AND SENATE ON NOVEMBER 2ND WHICH MAKES CLEAR THE AMERICAN PEOPLES REJECTION OF HIS AGENDA, OBAMA PLANS STATE BY STATE AMERICAN “GAZE” TOUR

ROCKLAND, ME—In an attempt to convince an anxious populace that his legislative agenda is working and that everything is going to be all right, President Barack Obama that he intends to embark on a 50-state, 30,000-town tour two weeks from today during which he plans to gaze assuredly into the eyes of each American citizen, one at a time.
"I know a lot of people out there are nervous. They’re worried about unemployment, the oil spill in the Gulf, and whether or not I am making the right choices in Washington," Obama said during a rally at Rockland District High School. "To those Americans, I offer you this inspiring, confident gaze."
To test his new strategy Obama then stepped down from his podium, walked into the 2,000-person audience, and peered comfortingly into each person’s eyes. After taking 45 minutes to methodically work his way from the front row all the way to the balcony, and punctuating each look with a gentle pat on the shoulder, Obama returned to the stage, collected himself, and addressed the silent group before him.
"There," he said. "All better."
In their announcement of the "2011 Eye-to-Eye Tour," White House officials said that Obama will first spend two weeks making eye contact with the 55 million residents of the densely populated Northeastern states, looking into their eyes and, if necessary, offering them an encouraging head nod. Obama will then continue down the East Coast before taking on the tour’s biggest challenge: gazing with confidence into the eyes of a hostile Southern electorate that largely rejects his policies.
Sources said in order to convince Southerners that the .27 Trillion total of all of his
"economic stimulus packages" is working and that the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is necessary, Obama will stare at them with a serious yet caring squint, give them a soothing smile, and, if necessary, mouth the words "trust me."
At press time, Obama was planning on making his way down North Calvert Street in Baltimore, where he will kick off the tour "This is a way for the president to get out of the Washington bubble and really reconnect with the American people," Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said during a Tuesday briefing. "To be honest, I was a little hesitant about the idea at first, but then the president called me into his office, sat me down, told me to take off my glasses, and looked at me with the most reassuring expression I have ever seen. At that point I was sold."
In the coming weeks , more than 60 million citizens will have had similar calming encounters with the president. Patrons at the Beefside Family Restaurant in Concord, NH, many of whom expressed concern that the country was more divided than ever, were looking forward to the day when the president will go from booth to booth making eye contact with every man, woman, and child present. If diners attempt to avoid his glance, Obama will maneuver his head quickly but confidently until he made direct eye contact and held their gaze.
Obama will also offer a self-assured stare to more than 24,000 out-of-work autoworkers in New Jersey; all members of the Vermont teacher’s union; some 500 West Virginia coal miners; Philadelphia; attorneys and clients in the law offices of Blum, Horowitz, and Mertz; and Pittsburgh native and Hollywood actor Michael Keaton.
"I was waiting for the wife to get the car when I felt a tap on my shoulder," Rockland resident Jarrod Tomlinson, 36, said. "I turned around and it was the president of the United States. Before I could tell him that as a small business owner, I was a little worried that the new health care bill wouldn’t offer me the subsidies necessary to provide my employees with coverage, he just grabbed both of my arms, looked into my eyes for maybe five seconds, massaged my shoulder briefly, and walked away."
"And you know what?" Tomlinson continued. "I think everything’s going to be okay."
Though recent poll numbers and the November 2 election ass whipping indicate that Obama is slipping in the trust level of the American people throughout the country, he says " The only thing i worry about is that that the effects of my confident gaze will be negated to some extent by that boot licking tool (Vice President Joe Biden) who has been busy winking at every damn American citizen he sees while pretending to shoot them with imaginary finger guns."

Gas prices can never go down. f
The amount of oil in the world is going down, down, down every day. This is obvious. The world will clearly run out of oil in 40 years. We are in a race against time. We only have this tiny windown of opportunity to shift the whole worlds energy sources from dead end fuels, like filthy coal, insane nukes & oil to endless solar & renewables. We have the technology to win this race if everyone installs solar panels on their roofs in 2012. If you wait even one year, we may miss the tiny window of time we have left. Solar panels last for 30 years. So it is a great investment to do now. Yes, The cost of solar cells is droping lower every year. But don’t wait for next years prices. Just add 10 panels now and 10 next year too. The best tsunami warning system is to put an elephant walking path from the ocean to a hill top. The SF zoo had 2 elephants until the month before the tsunami, when animals rights mis-leaders conned the Supervisors to remove the elephants. Return the elephants to the SF zoo. Best idea is to close the nuclear reactor at San Luis Obispo and have a crash program to run California 100% on solar & renewables. Germany close half its reactors & is closing all the rest because they are at 25% solar powered now. Germany is the greenest country in the world. Germany will be 100% powered by SOLAR & REnewables by 2022. All their reactors will be closed then. Tsunamis will be less of a danger, once we don’t have nukes. We will always have quakes. The amount of OIL is …
