Like an old house that has become unsafe, should the global economy be demolished?
Question by English_pig: Like an old house that has become unsafe, should the global economy be demolished?
Global economy and global populations are inextricably linked. We need the current global economic model in order that we can sustain the global population. However, this economy, in order to continue to function in this wasteful manner and to keep growing, needs ever more workers. Everybody from the richest banker to the lowliest road sweeper makes up a part of it.
The farce of this economic model is plain to see. On a global scale, the economy has allowed human populations to become artificially inflated to unsustainable levels. It was fine while we had enough natural resources to fuel the growth but I fear we are approaching the end of the road. As a species, we can’t just continue to maintain the current population levels until individuals reach the natural end of their lives because there are not enough resources to do so. We have squandered them. Indeed, in many parts of the world we all know that millions are already starving through lack of food brought about by corruption and human induced climate change. We have simply not left ourselves with enough resources to wind down the economy slowly and painlessly. We have also damaged the planets support systems so greviously that it is doubtful that it can continue to withstand such population pressures.
The economy will crash and burn as a result. Mass famines will become even more common, not just in the third world but in the west too. There will be terrible wars and disease. However, there will be a silver lining to all this disaster. Out of the ashes will arise a new dawn of civilisation; a new understanding of what it means to respect the planet, other animals and each other. The economy that we have now will be seen as primitive and brutal, much like that of medieval Europe. People will be astonished at how we had heaven and turned it into hell for ourselves and every other living species. Now thats the best scenario
The worst outcome could be the extintion of humans as a species. Other life will go on evolving without us and, given time, the Earths support systems will rejuvenate themselves. Perhaps then there will once again be a garden of eden like that which humans had? Perhaps another, hopefully more intelligent and deserving species can evolve and pick up where we left off?

I was wondering when the doomsayer would come crawling out of the woodwork. Everything you think about the current disaster is wrong.
We don’t need to demolish the economy, we need to demolish the government. And the earth can easily support far more humans than are alive today. Also the reason third world countries are poor is because of corruption, not climate change; the earth has been hotter than it is now and we had no problems. In fact a warmer earth will be able to feed more people, there was a time you could grow grapes in Scotland. Just you wait until the earth cools down, all this warming business will seem like a sweet dream.
If you hate the human species so much just kill yourself and spare us all your whining.
